Midway Noise Compatability Commission
In February 1996, the Chicago City Council passed Mayor Richard M. Daley's ordinance to create a Midway Noise Compatibility Commission to oversee noise remediation efforts around Chicago Midway Airport. The Commission participates in the planning of noise relief projects to be implemented in the Midway area, oversees an effective and impartial noise monitoring system and advises the City of Chicago on Midway-related noise issues.
In creating the Midway Noise Compatibility Commission, it was Mayor Daley's intention to form a policy-making group so that the decisions about how noise remediation money is spent will reflect the concerns of the communities that are most impacted by aircraft noise. The Commission makes recommendations to the City regarding noise reduction programs at Midway such as the Fly Quiet Program, Residential and School Sound Insulation Programs, and the Airport Noise Management System.
